Founded in Shoreditch in 2011 by two mates that were determined to disrupt the local coffee scene, the Grind brand today comprises six café-bars and three restaurants across London. Together with excellent food and coffee, the chain effortlessly combines design, technology, music, and start-up culture to create a truly unique customer experience.
The Grind concept started out as a single location espresso bar but as the business expanded, so too did their offering. Today, each Grind location has its own distinct personality and with that comes different menus and operational requirements. Creative Director, Ted Robinson joined Grind in 2013 and has witnessed the company evolve to become the successful, multi-location business that it is today.
The Revel Challenge
Insightful data makes for smart business decisions
With eight locations across London, real-time, multi-site reporting is absolutely essential to Grind’s operations. Easy to interpret but also impressively expansive, Revel’s intelligent reporting gives Grind’s management the ability to make key business decisions in a flash. Simply by using the Revel Insights app, Ted can see exactly how all of Grind’s locations are performing anywhere at anytime via his smartphone. Managing multiple sites has never been easier. “If a thunderstorm comes over and all of a sudden you're about have the worst lunchtime hour of your entire life, Revel will literally tell you to send someone home. It will tell you what the current sales are, and where they should be at that time so you can react very quickly and be completely data driven. “That level of insight is absolutely key, and one of the most valuable tools that we have in the business.”
Reducing human error from the kitchen to the floor
Never shy of embracing technology to improve processes, Grind were early adopters of the Revel Kitchen Display System. With KDS screens installed behind the espresso bar and within the kitchen at each location, dropped or lost printer dockets are no longer a concern for Grind. Further to that, orders can be easily changed or updated from the Revel till to the KDS without the need for staff to physically go behind the bar or into the kitchen to communicate the changes. “We’ve been using the KDS for about four or five years now and we love it. Whenever new staff start, they're always really impressed by how it helps to speed up processes and reduce mistakes.”
The Revel Solution
As a business that’s constantly pushing boundaries, it only makes sense that the Grind team would employ a system that would grow and innovate with them. With regular features updates and dedication to the success of their clients, Revel ticked all the boxes.

Ted Robinson, Creative Director, Grind
“What I think really sets Revel apart from other providers is the speed in which it moves. Every other month, there’s new features that are not only relevant to our business, they're actually really useful. Many of these updates have changed the way we run the business for the better.
“Revel allows for a hospitality company to be as data-driven as a tech startup, which is just so exciting for us.”
