In a yearly report that details upcoming Point of Sale software trends, Hospitality Technology released key points about drivers of POS adoption. Among these many statistics, respondents indicated that 59% wanted new features added to their current POS system, 58% were occupied with preparing for EMV compliance and 52% desired more integrations with other systems in their next POS upgrade.
Overall, business owners based purchasing decisions on robust feature development, advanced system functionality and preparing for policy compliance. That’s a lot of thought and effort pre-purchase, but are business owners also paying attention to what happens after they’ve decided on a system?
Here are 3 tips to consider for a new POS implementation whether you are a seasoned business owner or brand new to the game:
Set realistic expectations – Implementing a POS system doesn’t have to be a stressful process. Setting clear and realistic expectations at each stage of installation can help to alleviate a lot of the confusion that happens during implementation.
Is there enough time to physically install the system and test it before a grand opening? Have you coordinated your networking installer to prep the network prior to the installation of your terminals? Have access points been placed within approved distances to terminals with no environmental interference?
These questions may get lost in the shuffle of a new business opening, but keeping them top of mind can avoid headache later on.
Make time for training – A highly advanced POS system can only be as effective as the people who use it. Identify all employee roles of your business who will be accessing the POS and in what capacity it will be used. Take advantage of your vendor’s free online training manuals, videos and webinars. Invest some extra cash into an in-depth one-on-one training with a product expert.
With the needs of business owners evolving, advanced POS systems will scale with their customers. As a POS system’s features are enhanced, ongoing education will be paramount in keeping your staff effective and efficient.
Communicate with your stakeholders – Communication with your managers and staff is integral to a successful implementation. Get their buy-in with sharing the great POS features that will be at their disposal to make their jobs easier. Demonstrate how the business will flow with the POS system and create an ideal environment for both staff and customers.
